The Severian culture refers to one of the early Iron Age cultures that thrived from the 6th to 3rd centuries BC, centered on the Seversky Donets river in Eastern Ukraine and Southwestern Russia.
The Severian peoples were known for their specific material culture, which varied from other cultures of the Iron Age. Their settlements were consistently small and usually fortified. The dwellings were rectangular with a central hearth, indicating the Severian's organized residential and architectural planning.
The Severians had advanced systems of social integration. Their economy was based on mixed farming, livestock breeding, hunting, and fishing. Like many of the Iron Age cultures, the Severians were skilled in different types of craft, including pottery and metal working, which was reflected in their material culture.
The Severian culture is also notable for its burials. They would typically bury their dead covered with ochre and accompanied by grave goods such as pottery, tools, and weapons, depending on the social status of the deceased. This custom demonstrates the complex ritualistic and spiritual beliefs of the Severian culture.
Unfortunately, little is known about the Severian's own perspective on their society, as there is no written history from their perspective. Our understanding of their culture is derived entirely from archaeological excavations.
This culture believes in standing strong like a mountain, taking any and all hardships that life may throw at them and enduring them all with grim determination and an indomitable spirit.
Each culture will have an ethos, which represents the core values, principles and attitude towards life that the culture has. It also determines which court types are available for kingdoms and empires.
Each culture will have several traditions, which represent the main customs of a culture and can grant various effects. A culture can have up to five traditions in the tribal era, with every additional era reached granting an additional slot for Traditions.
