Goguryeo Culture ID

The Goguryeo culture arose in the north of the Korean peninsula and Manchuria, the largest and most martial of the Three Kingdoms of early Korea. It commanded a vast territory across rugged northern lands.

Forged on a demanding frontier, Goguryeo built a powerful military state that contended with the great powers of China and dominated its neighbours, its strength rooted in a hardy warrior aristocracy.

Goguryeo culture is vividly preserved in the painted murals of its royal tombs, which depict warriors, hunts, and daily life, and it embraced Buddhism alongside its martial traditions.

Expansive and formidable, the Goguryeo culture loomed large in the early history of Korea and the northeast Asian mainland.
