Overview

Rajput is a significant culture originating from the Indian subcontinent, chiefly distributed across northwestern India and some parts of Pakistan. The Rajputs emerged in the 6th and 7th century and are prestigious for being fierce warriors, governing various states in the region until the British rule.

The Rajputs divided themselves among three main classes: 36 royal clans, including Kachwaha, Rathore, and Sisodia, among others; the chieftains; and the landlords. The core principles of Rajput culture are valor, fairness, and a strict code of righteous conduct known as 'Rajdharma'.

Rajput culture shines notably in its architectural wonders like the Jaipur's Hawa Mahal, Jodhpur's Mehrangarh Fort, and Udaipur's City Palace, showcasing detailing and craftsmanship that are still awe-inspiring today. Their attire is another notable aspect; men usually wearing turbans, dhotis and kurta and women wearing ghaghara choli adorned with traditional jewelry.

The Rajputs are also known for their folk music and dances, such as Ghoomar, a traditional folk dance of Bhil tribe, which was later embraced by the royal courts of Rajasthan. Their cuisine primarily focuses on gamey food due to their hunting habits. The cuisine generally comprises a wide variety of vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes.

Rajput's impressive culture continues to influence modern India, leaving a fascinating footprint on its rich heritage.
