The Pechenegs were a semi-nomadic Turkic people who inhabited vast areas of the Eurasian steppes from the late 8th to the 12th century. Their culture and society were largely characterized by their nomadic lifestyle and warrior traditions. They were skilled horse riders and were known for their prowess in battle, often serving as mercenaries for various European and Asian powers.
Being predominantly pastoral nomads, the Pechenegs primarily engaged in livestock breeding. They lived in temporary settlements, with their yurt-like tents arranged in a circular pattern. They maintained a hierarchical society, with power centralized in the hands of the Kagan, their highest leader.
Religiously, before their conversion to Islam in the 9th century, the Pechenegs practiced Tengrism, an ancient Turkic religion that worshiped the sky deity, Tengri. The conversion influenced significant cultural changes, including the adoption of Islamic customs and traditions.
Though the Pecheneg culture ended with their assimilation into other cultures such as the Cuman-Kypchaks and the Oghuz Turks in the 12th century, they left a deep imprinted legacy in the history of the Eurasian steppes. Despite their often-militaristic reputation, their contributions to trade and cultural exchange between the East and the West were quite significant.
This culture considers conflict and violence to be necessary states of existence; ingrained in its people is the idea that one should stand up and fight for their own.
Each culture will have an ethos, which represents the core values, principles and attitude towards life that the culture has. It also determines which court types are available for kingdoms and empires.
Each culture will have several traditions, which represent the main customs of a culture and can grant various effects. A culture can have up to five traditions in the tribal era, with every additional era reached granting an additional slot for Traditions.
