How to Hybridize Culture in CK3

Hybridizing is how you build a custom culture in Crusader Kings III — combining the traditions of two cultures into a new one with the exact bonuses you want. It's the endgame of culture management and the reason there's no single best culture: you make your own.

Hybridize with another culture

As your culture's head, open the culture screen and choose Hybridize. You'll need:

• Cultural acceptance with the target culture — raise it by ruling its people, marrying into it, or keeping its members at court.
• Presence: some of your realm's counties should hold the other culture.
• Prestige to pay for it, plus time for the new culture to form.

The result is a brand-new hybrid culture that draws traditions from both parents, letting you stack, for example, a strong military tradition with an economic one.

Diverge to remake one culture

If you only want to tweak your own culture — swapping out a tradition or changing a pillar — choose Diverge instead. It splits a fresh culture off from yours without needing a second culture to merge with.

Do it instantly with the console

Both options normally take years. After enabling debug mode, toggle instant_culture_reformation to make hybridizing, diverging, and changing traditions resolve immediately:

Run it again to turn it off. To skip straight to an existing culture instead of building one, use set_culture.
